Golf Courses in Marrakech

If you love golf, you’ll be in your element in Marrakech because it boasts one of the best selections of top courses to be found in any single city location. To demonstrate the remarkable growth of golf in Marrakech, in 2010 there were just three courses whereas today there are no fewer than twelve, many of them designed by some of the top names in the sport. All the courses are listed in Trip Advisor's 'Top 20 courses in Morocco'.

The Royal Golf Club - commissioned by a former Pasha of Marrakech, the Royal Golf Club, opened in 1933, has played host to many prestigious visitors, including President Eisenhower, Winston Churchill, David Lloyd George and, notably, late King Hassan. The oldest course in Morocco, less than ten minutes from town, it benefits greatly from its colourful vegetation and mature plantations, especially eucalyptus and palms, with most holes being shaded, and fairways lined, by lofty trees. Originally designed as an 18-hole course, the Royal Golf Club was recently extended by an additional nine.

The Assoufid Golf Club - this exclusive 18-hole course, opened in 2012, is set in a naturally undulating, semi-desert landscape against the backdrop of the snow-capped Atlas. The Assoufid par 72 course winds its way through an undulating, typically desert landscape which Scottish course designer, Niall Cameron, has used to good effect. Only 45% of the area covered by the course is planted, with palms, olives and numerous cacti, to minimise water consumption but also to enhance the natural environment.

Located 10 kms from town, the Assoufid provides golfers with an exceptional, challenging golfing experience. It has a luxurious club house, first class pro shop and a golf academy.

The Samanah Golf Club - this is a 6,800-metre, par 72, course designed by the Nicklaus company, its most distinctive feature being the contrast between its lush fairways and the rough areas of rock and sand dotted with cacti and scrub brush beyond the playing areas. Natural hazards include two large lakes. Samanah has a smart club house, driving range and a chip and putt area.
