Marrakech is a great place to visit with children, especially older ones. Here are some of the many things to do for families in Marrakech.
Top 5 Activities for Families in Marrakech
From action-packed adventures such as mountain hikes in The Atlas to the excitement of exploring ancient, buzzing souks, Marrakech has it all. Here is our selection of the top activities to enjoy with your children while visiting Marrakech…
#1 – Go for a Camel Ride
You cannot get much more traditional than a camel (or, to be precise, dromedary) ride so hop onto one and take your kids for a desert adventure. You can either take a short walkabout on the outskirts of Marrakech (in the Palmeraie) or a longer half day trip. Either way, they’ll love it.
#2 – Visit ANIMA Garden
Set against a majestic Atlas Mountains backdrop and packed with over 250 plant species and an array of colourful, whimsical sculptures, pavilions, two museum rooms and a café, ANIMA Garden is an impressive, magical place that children can appreciate as much as adults.
#3 – Experience the Buzz of Jemaa el Fna
This, the ancient main square at the heart of the city, is the perfect place for the whole family to experience the essential magic of Marrakech. This is especially true each evening, when this vast space in the centre of town fills with acrobats, musicians, jugglers and street dancers, traditional water sellers and vendors offering delicacies and street food of all kinds.
If your children are a little young to stay out after dark, take them to the square during the day, when they can enjoy the sight of performing monkeys, musicians and snake charmers and discover the pleasure of freshly squeezed local oranges from one of the many stalls lining the square.
#4 – Visit Eden Aqua Park
Situated just over 2 miles outside Marrakech, Eden Aqua Park offers a thrilling range of watersport attractions, including a river, 6 pools, a park, water toboggans and a pirate beach. There’s a snack-bar, solarium and more – everything the family needs for an exciting day out.
#5 – Get Henna Tattoos
Treat your children to a Moroccan henna tattoo applied to a traditional design which they can show off to their friends back home although, as such tattoos typically last for only a few days, it’s best to leave this right to the end of your visit. It’s fun to watch the artist at work as the creations take shape while sipping one’s mint tea and munching on local patisseries. Traditional Moroccan tattoos will delight your children without costing the earth!
Henna tattoo artists are to be found in the Jemaa el Fna square and elsewhere in town but as some have been known to mix their inks with other, potentially skin irritating ingredients it is perhaps best to take advantage of the tattoo artists employed on demand by Les Borjs de la Kasbah whose artists use only organic henna and other bio ingredients to ensure the quality of the paste’s composition.
Where to Stay
Les Borjs de la Kasbah has several spacious, comfortably appointed Suites for a couple with a child up to 12yrs and, unusually, we also have a number of small single rooms, ideal for teenagers. Why not hop over to our booking page and reserve your room/s right now?
